6" of rain and counting..........

Pirat Butterhead lettuce.  Everything starts as a seed here on the farm whether planted first in the greenhouse or in the field.  This little lettuce plant was transplanted out into the fields on Sunday with approximately 700 others, thankfully I had my moms help.  After the 6" of rain we sure hope they all survive.  the weather is our biggest challenge.  My soil is more clay than sand which tends to hold water, this presents a challenge after so much rain.  It delays planting for quite some time and if the plants roots sit in water, most of the time they will rot and die.  I sure hope that our new bedding method will allow the roots to sit high enough that they are not soaked for too long.  We will start more seeds in the greenhouse this week, mostly summer plants such as squash, cucumbers and lots of flowers.  One goal for this year is to offer fresh cut flower bouquets!  So for now, I will keep planting inside until I can plant outside , forward movement at all times to stay on track.  We look forward to our first market this season on Saturday, March 12th.  You can visit us there at Lakeside Market, Lakeside Baptist Church, 9150 Garland Rd Dallas from 8am-1pm.  more info at www.goodlocalmarket.org
